LIGHT TRUCK:
1990-91 EXPLORER, RANGER
ISSUE:
Lack of heat to the floor area while in the floor heat mode may be caused by excessive air bleed to the defroster. This may be caused by the
floor/defroster door. This is most noticeable after the vehicle has reached normal operating temperatures.
ACTION:
Install a new foam covered floor/defrost door. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the plenum assembly from the vehicle. Refer to the Shop Manual Section 12-02B for service details.
2. Disconnect the floor/defrost door linkage from the black arm of the function cam located on the top of the plenum assembly.
3. Using a flat blade screwdriver, disengage the door pivot pins from the side of the plenum air duct and lift the door out of the plenum.
4. Position the new foam covered floor/defrost door in the plenum air duct.
5. Snap the pivot pins into the slots provided.
6. Be sure the notched section of the foamed door is above the lower case opening to the floor duct. This will assure that the door will open and close
properly.
7. Connect the floor/defrost door linkage to the function cam.
8. Use Ford Silicone Spray or equivalent, to lubricate both door pivots, both ends of the door linkage, plenum air duct walls and the foam edges of the
door.
9. Install the plenum assembly in the vehicle. Refer to the Shop Manual Section 12-02B for service details.
