Affected Vehicles
1990 Rangers with 4.0L engines built from Job # 1 (October 9, 1989) through November 30, 1989.

Reasons For Recall
The air inlet tube at the throttle body may interfere with the throttle lever/idle stop screw. This interference may prevent the engine from returning to
normal idle speed when the accelerator pedal is released, creating the risk of a vehicle crash.

NOTE: 

Performance of Recall 89S80 will satisfy Recall 89S79. Recall 89S79 has been canceled from CARES and OASIS.

Dear Owner:
 
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
 
Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1990 Rangers with 4.0L V6 engines.

Safety Defect
The flexibility tube which directs air to the engine of your truck could be mis-positioned when the truck is being serviced at some future time. It would
be possible that the throttle linkage could get caught on the tube and be held in or near a wide-open-throttle position. If this were to happen, the engine
speed would not return to idle following the drivers release of the accelerator pedal. A vehicle crash could result.

Earlier Recall
Even if you recently had your truck inspected as part of the related Ford Safety Recall No. 89-S-79, you still need to bring your truck to your dealer to
have the new air tube installed. Although the tube was not available at the time of the previous recall, Ford nonetheless wanted to inspect your truck, at
the time, for proper throttle linkage clearance.

Repairs
At no charge to you, your dealer will replace the flexible inlet air tube on your truck.

How Long Will It Take?
The time needed to repair your truck is less than one hour. However, due to service scheduling conflicts, your dealer may need your truck for a full
working day.
