1990 BRONCO II
ISSUE:
A driveline vibration may be caused by a driveline system that is out of balance. An imbalanced driveline could allow the driveshaft slip yoke
adaptor to cause the transmission extention housing bushing to wear prematurely. The worn bushing results in a transmission fluid leak.
ACTION:
Install a transmission extension housing service kit with a system balanced driveshaft to minimize loading on the transmission extension
shaft. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

One (1) output shaft

One (1) seal & gasket kit
^
One (1) retaining ring, output shaft
^
One (1) driveshaft
^
One (1) slip yoke adaptor flange
^
One (1) "O" ring
^
One (1) bolt
^
Two (2) rear axle shims
^
Eight (8) driveshaft attaching bolts

Remove the transmission and driveshaft assembly. Refer to the 1990 Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 07-01A, for service details.
NOTE:
IDENTIFY THE YELLOW MARK ON THE AXLE FLANGE FOR PROPER DRIVESHAFT INDEXING DURING REASSEMBLY.

Completely disassemble and thoroughly clean the transmission as described on pages 07-01A-34 through 07-01A-110 of the 1990 Bronco II
Shop Manual.
3.
Flush the transmission cooler and cooler lines.
4.
Replace the transmission extension housing, output shaft and retaining ring with the new parts contained in the transmission housing service kit.
Also replace any transmission parts that show excessive wear or damage which are not in the service kit.
5.
Install the transmission. Refer to the 1990 Bronco II Shop Manual, Section 07-01A, for installation details.
