Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

Fuel vapors from the fuel tank and air cleaner assembly are stored in the carbon canister.
OPERATION

When the vehicle is operated, the vapors will purge from the canister into the engine for consumption.
CONSTRUCTION

Contained in the evaporative emissions canister are 925ml (2 pints) of activated carbon, referred to as the carbon bed. Activated carbon has the
ability to purge (release) stored fuel vapors when exposed to fresh air flow.
