Idle Speed: Adjustments

Engine idle speed is NOT adjustable. The technician should be aware that diagnosis and testing of the idle speed circuit should begin at the Powertrain
Management level, where testing begins with "general" symptom diagnosis, and is narrowed to testing of a "specific" subsystem and it's related wiring
and components. Following the appropriate diagnostic routines may prevent misdiagnosis and unnecessary component replacement. Refer to Powertrain
Management/Testing and Inspection/Procedures.

THROTTLE BODY ADJUSTMENT
Idle speed is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) through the fuel injector pulse width and the idle air control valve.

CAUTION: Advancing the throttle return control screw may put airflow out of range so the PCM cannot control idle speed and mixture. Backing off the
throttle return control screw may cause the throttle plate to stick.
