2. Expand the sleeve in the turbine spline by tightening the threaded inner post until the tool is securely locked in the spline.
3. Attach Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-4201-C or equivalent to End Play Checking Tool T80L-7902-A. Position the indicator button on the
converter impeller housing and set the dial face to zero (0).
4. Lift the tool upwards as far as it will go and note the indicator reading. The indicator reading is the total end play which the turbine and stator
share. Replace the torque converter if the total end play exceeds the specifications.
5. Loosen the threaded inner post to remove the tool from the torque converter.
Torque Converter Operation Test
This test verifies that the torque converter clutch control system and the torque converter are operating properly.
1. Connect tachometer to engine.
2. Bring engine to normal operating temperature by driving vehicle at highway speeds for approximately 15 minutes in overdrive range.
3. After normal operating temperature is reached, maintain constant vehicle speed of about 80 km/h (50 mph). Release throttle for about two seconds
then reapply throttle to previous setting.
4. Engine rpm should increase when throttle is released and decrease in about five seconds (converter engagement) after throttle is reapplied. If this
does not occur, refer to Torque Converter Clutch Operation Concerns in the Diagnosis by Symptom Index.
