Transmission Mode Switch: Description and Operation
Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL)
DESCRIPTION:
The transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) is located in the instrument panel. It is labeled O/D OFF. The transmission control switch (TCS) and
the PCM control the on/off operation of the TCIL.
When the driver initially presses the button of the TCS, the TCIL turns on to indicate that transmission operation in 4th gear is disabled. When the
driver presses the TCS again, the TOIL turns off. The TCIL will flash if EPC solenoid is shorted or a monitored sensor has failed.
SYMPTOMS:
If the TCIL fails on or off, the driver may have an incorrect indication of transmission operation or monitored sensor malfunction.
