Ranger 2WD V6-3.0L (2008)
Universal Joint: Description and Operation
Universal Joints
The U-joints are:
^
lubed-for-life design and require no lubrication.
^
equipped with nylon thrust washers, located at each base of the bearing cup, which control end play, position the needle bearing and improve
grease movement.
^
retained in the driveshaft yoke by snap rings.
The U-joints and constant velocity (CV) joints allow the driveshaft to rotate smoothly through the changing angles between the transmission output
shaft and the driveshaft, plus the changes between the rear axle pinion angle and the driveshaft. The angles are constantly changing as the vehicle goes
through jounce and rebound in the normal driving cycle.
