ISSUE
Some 4X2 Super Cab Edge model vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission may exhibit a thump or bump sensation felt immediately on
acceleration from a stop or upon braking when coming to a complete stop. This is not to be confused with tip-out clunk. This may be caused by the
slip-yoke on the driveshaft.
ACTION
Install a new driveshaft which has a revised slip-yoke and lube the driveshaft slip yoke to improve slip characteristics. Refer to the following Service
Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform diagnostics to insure that condition exists.
2.
Inspect the rear axle flange for presence of the yellow dot balance mark.

If present, proceed to Step 3

If not, perform the following:
a.
Locate yellow dot balance mark on the driveshaft.
b.
Transfer this mark at the same orientation on the pinion flange of the rear axle.
3.
To the new driveshaft 1L5Z-4602-XA, apply grease XG-1-C (7-13 grams or .25 to .46 oz.) evenly to the driveshaft slip yoke splines.
4.
Remove the old driveshaft from the vehicle.
5.
Install the new driveshaft 1L5Z-4602-XA.
6.
Align the yellow dot balance mark to the rear axle flange.
CAUTION
IF NEW BOLTS TO RETAIN THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE AXLE ARE NOT AVAILABLE, COAT THE THREADS OF THE ORIGINAL
BOLTS WITH THREADLOCK AND SEALER EOAZ-19554-AA OR EQUIVALENT MEETING FORD SPECIFICATION WSK-M2G351-A5.
7.
Tighten driveshaft bolts to 65 to 88 Lb-ft (88 to 119 N.m).
8.
Check transmission fluid level. Refill if required Mercon V(R) (XT-5-QM).
9.
Verify repair.
