Ranger 4WD L4-122 2.0L SOHC (1984)
Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Remove
1. Open hood and install fender covers.
2. Loosen thermactor pump bolts and remove drive belt.
3. Remove fan blade and water pump pulley bolts.
4. Loosen alternator retaining bolts and remove drive belt from pulleys.
5. Drain cooling system and remove upper radiator hose.
6. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and pulley.
7. Remove thermostat housing and gasket.
8. Loosen and position the power steering pump mounting bracket and position aside.
9. Remove the timing belt outer cover retaining bolts.
Installation
1. Install the timing belt outer cover retaining bolts.
2. Install power steering pump mounting bracket.
3. Install thermostat housing and gasket.
4. Install thermostat housing upper radiator hose to the radiator, fill the cooling system.
5. Install crankshaft pulley and retaining bolt.
6. Position alternator drive belt to respective pulleys, adjust belt tension and tighten retaining bolts.
7. Position water pump pulley and fan blade and install four retaining bolts.
8. Position Thermactor pump drive belt to pulley. Adjust tension and tighten bolts.
9. Start engine and check for leaks.
