Valve Clearance: Adjustments

    The valve lash on these engines cannot be adjusted due to the use of hydraulic valve lash adjusters. However the valve train can be checked for wear
as follows:

1.

Crank engine to position camshaft with flat section of lobe facing rocker arm of valve to be checked.

Collapse lash adjuster with tool No. T74P-6565A and insert correct size feeler gauge between rocker arm and camshaft lobe. Desired clearance is
.040 to .050 inch. The allowable clearance is .035 to .055 inch. If clearance is not within limits, remove rocker arm and check for wear and replace
as necessary. If rocker arm is satisfactory, check valve spring assembled height. Valve spring assembled height should be 1.49 to 1.55 inch. If
valve spring assembled height is satisfactory, remove hydraulic lash adjuster and clean or replace as necessary.
