Ranger 4WD L4-122 2.0L SOHC (1984)
Use the following procedure to install the spacer pad (Figure 8):

Briefly submerge pad in ordinary tap water to moisten the interior core of the spacer pad.

Carefully pry the middle edge of the heat shield approximately 1/2 inch away from the converter body.
NOTE:
Care must be taken to avoid damaging the converter body, shield or attaching welds.

Install the moistened spacer pad between the heat shield and converter body as shown in Figure 8.
^
Reposition the middle edge of the heat shield to its original location.
