Cylinder Liner: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Remove cylinder head as described under ``Cylinder Head, Replace.''
2.
Remove oil pan as described under ``Oil Pan, Replace.''
3.
Remove connecting rod bearing caps and bearings in order so they can be installed in their original positions.
4.
Remove piston assemblies from cylinder block. To remove pistons, it may be necessary to ridge ream top of cylinder sleeves.
5.
Remove cylinder sleeves using tool No. 14-0316 or equivalent. Rotate crankshaft as necessary to avoid contact between connecting rod bearing
journal and pilot screw on tool. When removing sleeve from cylinder No. 4, rear of engine must be raised to provide clearance at dash
panel.
INSTALLATION
1.
Remove scratches from cylinder bores using oil soaked emery cloth.
2.
Lubricate cylinder bores and outside surface of cylinder sleeves with clean engine oil.
3.
Install cylinder sleeves using tool No. 14-0317 or equivalent. Check turning torque on tool nut when sleeve is approximately halfway installed, and
again when sleeve is almost seated in block. Torque should measure 13-37 ft. lbs. at both points.
4.
Reverse steps 1 through 4 as described under ``Removal'' to complete installation.
