LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 RANGER
Mis-diagnosis of staining or moisture around muffler seams may result in unnecessary replacement of the muffler.
Ranger mufflers were designed without drain holes in order to achieve a quieter exhaust system. As a result, it is normal for a certain amount of moisture
and staining to be present around the muffler seams. The presence of this soot, surface rust, or moisture does not ordinarily indicate a faulty muffler and
usually should not constitute a reason for muffler replacement.
The following visual inspection on the muffler, inlet and exhaust pipes, catalytic converter, heatshields, and hardware should be performed on customer
concerns of noisy or leaking exhaust systems.
1)
Parts Missing.
2)
Joints Loose or Leaking.
3)
Holes (not drain holes) or split seams on the pipes, muffler, or catalytic converter.
4)
Unauthorized removal of emission control equipment.
5)
Brackets, clamps, or rubber isolators missing or broken.
6)
Exhaust system not properly installed or securely fastened.
