Valve Clearance: Adjustments
Fig. 5 Collapsing lash adjuster
The valve lash on this engine cannot be adjusted due to the use of hydraulic valve lash adjusters. However, the valve train can be checked for wear as
follows:
1.
Crank engine to position camshaft with flat section of lobe facing rocker arm of valve being checked.
2.
Collapse lash adjuster with tool T74P-6565A and insert correct size feeler gauge between rocker arm and camshaft lobe, Fig. 5. If clearance is not
as listed in the ``Valve Clearance Specifications,'' remove rocker arm and check for wear and replace as necessary. If rocker arm is found
satisfactory, check valve spring assembled height and adjust as needed. If valve spring assembled height is correct, remove lash adjuster and clean
or replace as necessary until desired clearance is obtained.
