REPORTING OF COMPLETIONS
Upon completion of the required service, return the second copy of the Form 1864 completely filled out and signed by authorized dealer or body
builder personnel. Only the Form 1864 will be accepted for reimbursement on this program. It is important that all claims be filed for all completed
units so that you will be reimbursed and our records will show completion. Any problem encountered with this recall should be brought to the
attention of your supervising location or Wixom.

Dear Ranger Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford Motor Company has
determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1984 Ranger light trucks equipped with auxiliary fuel tanks. Our
records indicate that you own the affected vehicle identified by the serial number on the enclosed Form 1864.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DEFECT:
On some 1984 Ranger vehicles equipped with auxiliary fuel tanks the fuel or vapor lines may have been damaged during assembly when adjacent
frame crossmember bolts were tightened. In addition, there is a possibility that some of these bolts may not have been fully tightened, or may be
missing. Because the crossmember supports the fuel tank, loose or missing bolts create a potential for fuel tank damage. Fuel line or fuel tank
damage increases the risk of fuel spillage, particularly in the event of a vehicle collision. If fuel leakage were to occur, and an ignition source were
present, the potential for a fire would exist.
WARNING:
DO NOT OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE IF A FUEL LINE IS LEAKING. LEAKS MAY BE DETECTED FROM EVIDENCE
(WET SPOT) OF DRIPPING ON PAVEMENT OR GARAGE FLOOR OR THE ODOR OF GASOLINE. IF YOUR
VEHICLE HAS A FUEL LEAK, TELEPHONE A FORD DEALER AND ARRANGE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE
SERVICED.
SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED:
Ford is recalling your vehicle to correct this condition. We wish to inspect the fuel and vapor lines and fuel tank crossmember attachment bolts and,
if necessary, replace damaged fuel or vapor lines and tighten loose crossmember attachments -- at no cost to you.
TO HAVE THIS SERVICE PERFORMED:

Contact a Ford dealer immediately for an appointment. Dealers have repair instructions and part ordering information. If your dealership does not
have parts in stock, the parts can be ordered on a rush basis. The time needed to inspect your vehicle is less than one-half hour, and a fuel line
replacement would take about one hour.

Present the enclosed Form 1864 to your dealership when the recall service is done. After servicing your vehicle, the dealership will return the form
to us verifying that the required inspection or repair has been performed. If you lose the Form 1864, the dealership will still service your vehicle at
no charge to you.
