Dealer Claim Form (FED-1864 or FCS-1864), a blank Form 1864 should be completed by you and sent in for reimbursement. For Dealers in Puerto

Vehicle owners whose names and addresses are shown on the enclosed recall listing are being notified by First Class Mail. If you have knowledge that a
suspect vehicle has been sold, but the owner's name and address does not appear on the listing, please contact the owner immediately and provide him a
copy of the owner letter. If the owner of any vehicle cannot be contacted or does not make an appointment to have his vehicle corrected, advise your
supervising location or this office of the owner's name and address so that we can handle further notification.

If no vehicle listing is enclosed, you are not involved at this time, and this Service Recall Bulletin is for information only.

Dealer Obligations, Technical Instructions & Parts Requirements Information

DEALER OBLIGATIONS:

Dealers are obligated to perform this recall service promptly following presentation of the vehicle by the owners. United States law requires that we
advise owners in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and certain territories

of the procedure to be followed by them in informing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, if the defect is not corrected without charge
within a reasonable time after the vehicle is brought in. This notice is included in the owner letter (copy attached) to be sent to owners in Puerto Rico,
Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Canal Zone, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. It is also important, however, that you promptly report (to your
supervising location or Wixom) any instances in which an owner will not allow you to complete this recall because of objections to delays in scheduling,
or for any other reason.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Inspection

Involved vehicles, suspect front axles and corrected front axles can be determined by:

Involved units are listed on the dealer listing and in CARES and the vehicle build date (January 12 through February 22) is ink stamped on the
dash panel near the heater blower motor.

Axle assemblies built before January 11, 1984 or after February 22, 1984 are not suspect and do not require correction. The axle build date code is
stamped vertically in 1/8 inch high lettering along with the axle part number on the front side of the left axle arm, near the wheel end. A typical
part number and code is:

Suspect axles that have a blue paint daub on the front axle housing above the lubricant fill plug were corrected at the assembly plant and will not
require correction. These units can be released from the delivery hold after verification of the paint code.

Repair

Replace and adjust the cam assembly in both of the front locking hubs. Refer to the appropriate 1984 Ranger or Bronco II shop manual, Section 11-12
for procedures on replacement and adjustment of the automatic locking hubs.

Remove the front wheels and tires and the wheel hubs.

Remove the snap ring, two spacers, needle bearing, and cam assembly from each hub.

If the cam assembly is broken, inspect all other parts for damage, and replace any that are damaged.

Install new cam assemblies and the locking hub parts, following the procedures in the shop manual (Section 11-12).

Install the wheels and tires and torque wheel lug nuts to specifications. CAUTION: The replaced (removed) cam assemblies must be mutilated and
scrapped to prevent re-use in service.
