LEAKS OIL (2.8L) - REAR MAIN SEAL
LIGHT TRUCKS 1983-84 RANGER; 1984 BRONCO II
A 2.8L rear main seal was released for service that may not meet the design specifications for sealing ability on the crankshaft. The seal (6701) is rust
colored and has an engineering number (83BM-6701-A3A) stamped on it. All stock has been purged from the parts depot and a new seal with the same
service part number put in its place. The new seal is gray in color. Some early production vehicles (Job #1 to January 1983) may be equipped with the
rust colored seal; if a leak does occur, replace with the new gray seal.

Remove and discard rear main oil seal (Engineering part no. 83BM-6701-A3A) by referring to procedure in the 1983 Ranger/Bronco 11 Shop
Manual.

Obtain and install new seal by using installer tool. (part no. T72C-6165-R).
