Clutch Pedal - Creak Noise During Application

CLUTCH PEDAL - "CREAKS" DURING ACTUATION - VEHICLES WITH M50D TRANSMISSION BUILT BEFORE 6/1/93
LIGHT TRUCK:
1993 EXPLORER, RANGER
ISSUE:
The clutch pedal may "creak" during actuation. This occurs because the clutch pedal pivot pin head has a "flat spot".
ACTION:
Confirm that the clutch pedal pivot pin is causing the "creak". If so, replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder pushrod bushing. If the clutch pedal
pivot pin is not causing the "creak", replace the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
CONFIRM CLUTCH PEDAL PIVOT PIN CREAK
1.
Remove the master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal pin. Refer to the 1993 Ranger/Explorer Service Manual, Section 08-02, for the removal
procedure.
2.
Lube the inner diameter of the pushrod bushing with silicone lubricant.
NOTE:
DO NOT LUBRICATE THE CROSS SHAFT BUSHINGS, MASTER CYLINDER, OR PUSHROD.
3.
Reattach the pushrod to the clutch pedal pin.

If the "creak" is eliminated, replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder pushrod bushing using the following service procedure.

If the "creak" is not eliminated, replace the concentric slave cylinder (F2TZ-7A564-A). Refer to the 1993 Ranger/Explorer Service Manual,
Section 08-02, for the removal and installation procedure.

If the vehicle was built before June 1, 1993, also replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder pushrod bushing using the following service
procedure.

If the vehicle was built after June 1, 1993, do not replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder pushrod bushing.
CLUTCH PEDAL AND MASTER CYLINDER PUSHROD BUSHING REPLACEMENT
1.
Disconnect the battery.
2.
Remove the parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to the 1993 Ranger/Explorer Service Manual, Section 06-05, for the removal procedure.
3.
Disconnect the dash wire harness. Push the dash wire harness up into the dash to make room for the clutch pedal removal. (This may already have
been done in the process of removing the parking brake pedal assembly.)
4.
Loosen the clutch master cylinder bolts.
5.
Remove the C-clip on the inboard side of the clutch pedal shaft.
6.
Pull out the clutch pedal. The pedal must be tipped slightly to remove the shaft entirely.
NOTE:
THE BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT NEED TO BE DISCONNECTED TO REMOVE THE CLUTCH PEDAL. LEAVING THE BRAKE PEDAL
CONNECTED HELPS TO HOLD IT IN PLACE WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL SHAFT IS BEING REINSERTED THROUGH THE BRAKE
PEDAL CROSS SHAFT.
7.
Replace with new clutch pedal (F2TZ-7519-C). Reinstall using above instructions in reverse order.
