NOISE -"CHUCKING/SQUEAKING/CREAKING"COMING FROM REAR DOORS WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS AND/OR DURING HARD
TURNS WHILE STOPPING
FORD:
1999-2000 RANGER
ISSUE
A "chucking/squeaking" and/or "creaking" noise may be heard from the rear doors while driving over bumps and/or during a hard turn while stopping.
This may be caused by the rear door striker bar positioned incorrectly.
ACTION
Correctly position striker bar. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify chucking, squeaking, and/or creaking sound(s) are present while driving on non-smooth surfaces (e.g. gravel/rough roads). The sound may
also be present under a hard turn (stop-to-stop) condition and/or when the vehicle is in a body-flex situation (i.e. turning in parking lot or
driveway).
2.
If noise(s) are present, determine if the rear doors' upper striker bars are positioned correctly (Figure 1). The upper striker bar must meet the center
of the rear door locking-latch assembly as shown in Figure 1.
3.
If not, lightly tap upper striker bar with a rubber/plastic mallet or equivalent, so it is positioned correctly as shown in Figure 1.
4.
Verify fix with road test by driving over rough or non-smooth surfaces.
