CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may be illuminated and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1405 may be stored in continuous memory, with
potentially no driveability concerns present. This may be caused by the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD II) misfire strategy, Exhaust Gas Recirculation
(EGR) calibration, and the transmission calibration.
ACTION:
Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The revised calibrations contain a revised misfire strategy, OBD II EGR calibrations, and
transmission calibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
NOTE:
REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
(PCM).
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnostics outlined in the 1997 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Car/Truck On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD II)
Service Manual. Service as required.
2.
If the concern still exists, reprogram the PCM by following the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) reprogramming tool, using the latest level
CD-ROM or later. Refer to the PCM Application Chart.
