Control Module: Description and Operation
The powertrain control module (PCM) controls various engine functions and provides control of the 4R44E transmissions.
The PCM responds to inputs and operates solenoids for electro-hydraulic control of line pressure, shift scheduling, torque converter clutch (TCC)
scheduling and coast clutch control for coast braking.
The PCM has the ability to:

Monitor its input and output devices for the presence of faults.

Store diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to detected faults.
^
Alert the driver for some detected faults by turning on the malfunctioning indicator lamp (MIL) in the instrument cluster.
^
Display information when a service technician connects diagnostic equipment.
