Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant Pump - 4.0L SOHC
Removal and Installation
1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding - 4.0L See: Service and
Repair/Procedures/Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
2. Remove the fan shroud. For additional information, refer to Cooling Fan Shroud - 4.0L See: Fan Shroud/Service and Repair.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.

To install, tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
4. Slide the coolant bypass hose clamp up from the coolant pump.
5. Disconnect the heater hose from the coolant pump.
6. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant pump.
7. Remove the 4 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.

To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
8. Remove the 12 bolts, the coolant pump and the gasket.

Discard the gasket.

To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
9. NOTICE: Use care when cleaning the water pump-to-engine block gasket mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak
paths.
Clean all the sealing surfaces.
