Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Pedal Cross-Shaft Streetka 2003.5 (01/2003-07/2005)
Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Remove the brake booster. For additional information, refer to Section  206-07 Power Brake Actuation.
3-door
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Remove the air cleaner upper assembly.
    1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connectors.
    1. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet tube.
    1. Remove the screws.

  1. Remove the air cleaner lower assembly.
    1. Detach the crank case breather pipe.
    1. Detach the air cleaner lower assembly from the front retainer.
    1. Detach the air cleaner lower assembly from the rear retaining dowels.
All vehicles

  1. Position the brake booster bracket support brace to one side.
    1. Loosen the bolt.
    1. Move the brake booster bracket support brace to the left.

  1. Remove the brake booster actuator rod retaining clip.

  1. Detach the central junction box (CJB) from the lower panel.
    1. Remove the screws.
    1. Lower the CJB.

  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft bracket retaining nuts.

  1. Detension the brake pedal cross-shaft return spring.
    • Unclip the spring.

  1. Detach the fuel lines and the brake tube from the bulkhead.
    1. Unclip the fuel feed and return lines.
    1. Unclip the brake tube.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the air conditioning dehydrator from the wheelhouse assembly.

  1. Remove the right-hand side brake pedal cross-shaft mounting bracket.
    1. Pull the mounting bracket away from the bulkhead.
    1. Disconnect the mounting bracket from the cross-shaft.

  1. Detach the brake pedal cross-shaft from the left-hand side mounting bracket.
    1. Rotate the cross-shaft clockwise.
    1. Move the cross-shaft to the right.

  1. Disconnect the spark plug electrical connectors.

  1. Detach the brake pedal to cross-shaft actuator rod grommet from the bulkhead.

  1. Detach the brake pedal to cross-shaft actuator rod from the bulkhead.
    1. Rotate the cross-shaft clockwise.
    1. Pull the actuator rod out of the bulkhead aperture.

  1. Remove the brake pedal to cross-shaft actuator rod.
  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
