Function of the anti-theft alarm system

The alarm system can only switched on or off using the vehicle's remote control.

If the vehicle is locked with the vehicle key then the alarm system is not activated.

Both doors of the vehicle need to be closed to activate the alarm system.

There must not be any people, animals or other movable objects in the vehicle.

Before the alarm system is activated the contacts of the anti-theft alarm system are checked for correct operation. The contacts must be closed.

    There are contacts for:

  • Hood
  • Driver's door
  • Passenger door
  • Luggage compartment lid
  • Convertible top stowage compartment lid

If at least one of these contacts is not closed then an alarm is generated lasting 28 seconds, which is then repeated 10 times.

Unlock the doors with the remote control to switch off this alarm.

If the alarm system is activated then the following contacts become active after 5 seconds:

  • Hood
  • Luggage compartment lid
  • Terminal 15 (ignition ON)
  • Convertible top stowage compartment lid,
  • and battery

The following are also activated after 60 seconds:

  • Door contacts and
  • the microwave sensor

When the alarm system is active an acoustic and visual alarm is triggered if an attempt is made to steal the vehicle.

The acoustic alarm sounds via the alarm signal horn (integrated in the anti-theft alarm system alarm module), and the visual alarm is indicated via the turn signal lamps.

Alarm signals

There are 3 different alarm signals

    1. Alarm signals for:

  • Hood
  • Luggage compartment lid,
  • Ignition ON,
  • Convertible top stowage compartment lid,
  • Driver's door,
  • Passenger door,

The alarm sounds 10 times with a 5-second pause between cycles.

    2. Alarm signals for:

  • Battery (e.g. if the battery positive line is interrupted)

The alarm sounds 11 times with a 5-second pause between cycles. (on RHD vehicles in some countries there is no pause between cycles).

    3. Alarm signals for:

  • Microwave sensor alarm (interior monitoring)

The alarm sounds a maximum of 10 times with a 5-second pause between cycles.

Triggering the alarm system

The alarm system can be triggered by:

  • Opening the luggage compartment
  • Opening the hood
  • Opening the doors
  • Opening the convertible top stowage compartment lid
  • The movement sensor (microwave sensor) in the vehicle
  • Starting the vehicle
  • Disconnecting the alarm module
  • Disconnecting the power supply to the alarm system

Deactivating the alarm system

Once an alarm has been triggered, the alarm system can be deactivated by pressing the unlocking button on the remote control.

If when the alarm system is active the vehicle is unlocked with a key in the door lock instead of using the remote control, then the alarm system remains active.

If at least one door is open when the alarm sounds then the following steps should be carried out in order:

  • close both doors,
  • press the locking button on the remote control to lock the doors
  • wait 3 seconds,
  • then unlock the doors by pressing the unlocking button on the remote control. The alarm system is then deactivated.

If the alarm has been triggered as a result of an interruption in the power supply or due to manipulation of the power supply, then

  • the power supply should be reconnected or the anti-theft alarm system alarm module should be reconnected
  • and the unlocking button on the remote control should be pressed.

The anti-theft alarm system alarm module is installed at the rear right behind the luggage compartment trim.

The anti-theft alarm system alarm module comprises:

  • the control unit for the anti-theft alarm system
  • the horn for the anti-theft alarm system
  • a rechargeable batter

The rechargeable battery is required so that an alarm can be triggered when an attempt is made to manipulate the vehicle battery or its supply line, as a result of which there has been a voltage drop.

The anti-theft alarm system alarm module is electrically linked to the central locking system.

The anti-theft alarm system alarm module is not linked to the data link connector.

Microwave sensor

Description

Microwave sensor

The microwave sensor is located in the middle of the vehicle and is covered by the carpet without adverse affects on its functionality.

The sensor monitors the interior of the vehicle via microwave signals.

The function is the same as that of a radar device. Microwave signals are transmitted. They then bounce back off the interior of the vehicle and are received back at the module, where they are evaluated. Any changes resulting from a movement are detected and result in an alarm being triggered.
