Radio Speakers - Poor Bass Performance

RADIO - SPEAKERS - POOR BASS PERFORMANCE - UNITS BUILT PRIOR TO 4/15/86

FORD 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

Some vehicles may exhibit reduced bass performance because of inadequate speaker baffling.

To service concern vehicles, use the following procedure:

1.

Taurus/Sable - On vehicles built before February 10, 1986, the water shield material must be removed at the perforation knock out area behind
both right and left hand door speakers. Care must be taken not to damage wires behind watershield material.

2.

Taurus/Sable - On vehicles built before February 10, 1986, a seal, part number E6DZ-18A808-B, right hand, and E6DZ-18A808-C, left hand,
must be added to the right hand and left hand door speaker and plate assembly. Locate seal in position

as shown in Figure 6 and bond seal with a sealing adhesive and secure to the plate of the door speaker assembly.
3.

Taurus Only - On vehicles built before April 15, 1986, replace both rear speaker grilles with new (E6DZ-18978-F) right hand, and
(E6DZ-18978-G) left hand rear speaker grilles, which have larger audio openings.
