ISSUE:
A new design power steering gear is used on vehicles built after January 30, 1987. The steering gear check valve is relocated to the inside of
the pressure port where the power steering pressure line attaches on these new gears. Also, a new heat shield is used on vehicles with 2.5L
engines. The new design steering gear may be used to service vehicles built before January 30, 1987. However, if the new gear is used, the
new heat shield needs to be installed on 2.5L engine applications.

If service is required, refer to the following service information.

Be sure to install check valve in the proper direction in the pressure port, Figure 1. Refer to TSB 87-8-4.
2.
Pressure and return port threads are the same; fittings are color coded. Gold color is pressure, silver color is return.
