A groaning or clicking noise coming from the steering column-to-intermediate shaft connection may be caused by a slight sliding movement of the
column to the shaft. To correct this, apply a heavyweight grease (C1AZ-19590-B) to the intermediate shaft connection using the following procedure:

1.
Remove the retainer assembly from the steering column-to-intermediate shaft connection, Figure 9.
2.
Separate the steering column from the intermediate shaft.
3.
Apply a generous amount of heavy grease (C1AZ- 19590-B) in the vee of the steering column side of the slip joint, Figure 9.
NOTE:
Do not use a lightweight grease or oil.
4.
Install the intermediate shaft into steering column vee joint.
