Valve Cover: Service and Repair

1.

 Disconnect secondary ignition cables from spark plugs.

2.

 Remove secondary cable separators from rocker arm cover attaching bolt studs.

3.

 If left side rocker arm cover is being removed, disconnect crankcase breather hose and remove oil filler cap.

4.

 If right side rocker arm cover is removed, disconnect EGR tube and heater hoses, then remove PCV valve.

5.

 Remove rocker arm cover attaching bolts, then the cover.

6.

 Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a.  Lightly oil bolt and stud threads prior to installation.
b.  Apply bead of RTV sealant at cylinder head to intake manifold rail step.
c.  Torque EGR tube to 25-36 ft lbs. For other torque specifications, refer to Engine Tightening Specifications.
