Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crankshaft Position Sensor
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is a single Hall effect magnetic switch, actuated by three vanes on the crankshaft damper and pulley assembly.
The signal generated by this sensor is called Profile Ignition Pick-up (PIP). The PIP signal provides base timing and rpm information to the ignition
module and the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA). Base timing is set at 10 degrees BTDC and is not adjustable.
