Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
Fluid Level Check
With AXOD-E (AX4S)
FLUID CHECK
1. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
2. Move transaxle selector lever through each range, allowing enough time in each range for transaxle to engage. Return selector lever to the Park
position and apply parking brake.
NOTE: Do not turn off engine during fluid level check.
3. Clean all dirt from transaxle fluid dipstick cap before removing dipstick from filler tube.
4. Remove dipstick from tube, wipe it clean, then push it all the way back into the tube. Ensure dipstick is fully seated.
5. Pull dipstick out of tube and check fluid level. Fluid should be between the arrows.
6. If vehicle has been operating for an extended period at high speed or in city traffic in hot weather or vehicle is being used to tow a trailer, the
transaxle fluid must be allowed to cool for about 30 minutes after the engine has been turned off for an accurate reading to be obtained.
With AX4N
FLUID LEVEL CHECK
NOTE: Fluid level should be checked at normal operating temperature, with the vehicle on a level surface.
1. Start engine and move gearshift selector through all ranges, allowing sufficient time for each position to engage.
2. Place, gear selector in PARK position and set parking brake.
3. With engine running, check fluid mark on transaxle dipstick. Fluid should be within crosshatched area of the level indicator.
4. If fluid level is low, add MERCON ATF or equivalent automatic transmission fluid. MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced
by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
5. If fluid level is too high, disconnect transaxle fluid cooler IN line at cooler and drain.
