Bundling Strap
7. Secure power steering pressure hose and power steering return hose to transfer tube with bundling strap as shown.
8. Install steering shaft u-joint shield.
9. Install front wheel spindle connecting rod or ends to front wheel knuckle (LH) and front wheel knuckle (RH).
Tighten castellated nuts to minimum of 48 Nm (35 ft-lbs.).
If necessary, tighten slightly more to align slot in nut for the cotter pin.
10. Install a new cotter pin.
11. Install LH front wheel and lower vehicle.
12. From inside vehicle, pull steering column tube boot end out of vehicle and install over steering gear housing.
13. From inside vehicle, install steering column gear input shaft coupling to power steering gear input shaft and control.
14. Install inner steering column tube boot to dash panel.
15. Install steering column gear input shaft coupling to steering gear input worm gear and rack.
16. Fill power steering system with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA (ESW-M2C33-F) or equivalent.
17. Check system for leaks and proper operation.
18. Adjust toe setting.
Taurus LX & Sable
Removal
1. From inside vehicle, remove nuts retaining steering column tube boot to dash panel.
2. Remove two bolts retaining steering column gear input shaft coupling to steering gear input worm gear and rack.
3. Set steering column tube boot aside. Remove pinch bolt at power steering gear input shaft and control and remove steering column gear input shaft
coupling.
