Lift the seat and track assembly high enough to disconnect the power feed and seat belt warning light wires.

Tilt the seat backward for an unobstructed view of the seat control switch wiring. Disconnect the wiring at the connector. (See Figure 1).
5.
Remove the seat and track assembly and place it on a clean work area.
6.
Remove the seat control switch wiring (pigtail) from between the seat springs and seat support bracket.
7.
Inspect the switch wiring (pigtail) for damage, such as abrasion,
punctures or chaffing in the cloth wire-wrap.
8.
Using electrical tape, repair any wires that are damaged. If damage to the switch wiring is too extensive to repair, replace the switch assembly (Part
Number E6DZ-14A701-A).
9.
Connect the seat control switch wiring (pigtail) to the wiring harness and reroute the wiring as shown in Figure 1.
10.
Position the seat and track assembly to the floorpan.
11.
Reconnect the power feed and seat belt warning light wires.
12.
Reconnect the battery ground cable.
13.
Install tbe seat track-to-floorpan attaching bolts and nuts. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 8-18 lb.ft. (12-24 N-m) torque.
14.
If the car is equipped with both driver and passenger side power seats, repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
15.
Check the seat track for proper operation.

Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1988 and 1989 Taurus and Sable vehicles
(except Taurus SHO) equipped with power front seats.
Safety Defect
The power front seat switch wiring on your car may become trapped between the
seat cushion springs and a seat support bracket when the seat is occupied.
Eventually a short circuit may develop which could cause the wiring to
overheat, and possibly produce a fire in the seat materials.
Repairs
At no cost to you, your dealer will reroute the seat wiring
on your car. If the wiring is damaged, it will be repaired or replaced.
Your dealer currently has the instructions necessary to perform the
inspection and modifications. If repair parts are needed and the dealer
does not have them in stock, they can be ordered on a RUSH basis and
should arrive within a week.
