Steering Shaft: Service and Repair
Models With Airbag
Removal
1.
Disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2.
Remove steering column from vehicle.
3.
Remove lock cylinder housing from column.
4.
Support housing, then tap out small bearing with appropriate drift and plastic hammer.
Installation
1.
Support housing. Position small bearing so that opening between races is ``up.'' Tap into place with plastic hammer and bushing driver installer or
socket the same size as outer race of bearing.
2.
Install lock housing on steering column.
3.
Install steering column.
4.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
