NOISE - BUZZING SOUND DURING WIDE OPEN THROTTLE ACCELERATION - 2.3L CFI
FORD 1985 TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 TOPAZ
If a buzzing noise is heard during wide open throttle acceleration, the cause may be the Air Inlet Resonator vibrating against the inner fender
reinforcement. The issue can be resolved by installing a foam pad between the resonator and the inner fender reinforcement using the following
procedure.
1.
Loosen the front half of the left front fender inner liner.
2.
Verify that there is insufficient clearance between the resonator and the inner fender reinforcement. Either the rub pad is missing or misplaced. See
Reference:
Figure 16.
Figure 18 - Air Inlet Resonator
3.
Insert a 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/8 piece of insulation material (such as ESB-M17154-A) or firm foam material at the point of contact between the rear
area of the resonator and fender reinforcement. See Figure 18.
4.
Reinstall the fender lining.
NOTE:
Effective 1/7/85 a new resonator was being installed which has a rub-pad attached. This should resolve buzzing noise due to contact with inner
fender reinforcement.
