Install the detent cartridge, spring and detent plunger as an assembly (Figure 31). Threads of cartridge must be coated with D8AZ-19554-A sealant with
teflon and torque detent cartridge to 66-96 in.lbs. torque.

For 2.0L diesel engine equipped Escort/Lynx and Tempo/Topaz applications only, this cartridge fix must be accompanied by replacing the shift
boot assembly (E6FZ-7277-B).
