Vehicles that exhibit rough idling, black smoke or poor fuel economy may have a plugged manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP) vacuum hose. The
plugged vacuum hose is caused by fuel entering and reacting with the coating in the MAP that turns into a gel plugging the hose. Check for this condition
(and install a new MAP bracket, manifold vacuum fitting and hose) using the following procedure.

1.

Unplug vacuum hose at the MAP sensor and inspect for gel plugging the hose. If the gel is present, remove the hose. Do not reuse old hose.
Replace with a new hose.

NOTE:

Do not replace MAP sensor.

Install a new MAP sensor bracket (E63Z-9G476-A) and new manifold vacuum fitting (E73Z-9A474-B). Torque the vacuum fitting to 6-10
lbs.ft. (8-14 N-m) and position horizontally to ground, Figure 17.

3.

Install new vacuum hose.
