Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
LEFT SIDE
1.
Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
Remove dipstick tube support bracket, then remove exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts.
3.
Remove exhaust manifold to cylinder head attaching bolts, then the manifold.
4.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lightly lubricate nuts and bolts with suitable oil.
b. Torque manifold attaching bolts to specifications.
c. Torque exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts to specifications.
RIGHT SIDE
1.
Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
On 1989-90 models, remove heater hose support bracket, then disconnect heater hoses.
3.
On all models, using suitable back-up wrench on EGR tube lower adapter, remove EGR tube from exhaust manifold.
4.
On 1992 models, remove coolant bypass tube.
5.
On all models, remove exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts.
6.
Remove exhaust manifold to cylinder head attaching bolts, then the manifold.
7.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following.
a. Lightly lubricate nuts and bolts with suitable oil.
b. Torque manifold attaching bolts to specifications.
c. Torque exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts to specifications.
d. Torque EGR tube to specifications.
