Constant Velocity Joint: Service and Repair
Outboard
NOTE: Outboard joints are permanently attached to halfshafts during production. Other than dust boot replacement, no attempt to service these
assemblies should be made. Boot replacement first requires that the inboard joint be removed from the shaft so the old boot may be withdrawn and the
new boot installed from the inboard side.
REMOVAL
Halfshaft Assemblies
1.
With inboard joint removed, slide replacement outboard dust boot onto shaft.
2.
Prior to positioning the boot over the outer joint, pack joint and boot with about 5 ounces of High-Temp Constant Velocity Grease E43Z-19590-A
or equivalent.
3.
Position boot over the joint and install clamps. Install inboard joint.
SERVICE
1.
Install new stop ring, if removed. Ensure that stop ring is properly seated in groove.
2.
Install new circlip in groove nearest end of shaft. To avoid over-expansion or twisting of circlip, start one end in groove and work circlip over stub
