Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation

1.

Remove rear suspension control arm attaching bolt.

2.

Remove outboard U-joint attaching bolts and caps.

3.

Remove inboard U-joint attaching bolts and caps.

4.

Carefully slide shafts together. Do not allow splined shafts to contact with excessive force. Remove halfshafts. Do not drop the halfshafts as the
impact may damage U-joint bearing cups.

5.

Remove and retain bearing cups.

6.

Inspect U-joint assemblies for wear and/or damage. Replace U-joints, if necessary.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Note the following:
a. The inboard shaft has a larger diameter than the outboard shaft.
b. Torque inboard U-joint attaching bolts to 15-17 ft. lbs.
c. Torque outboard U-joint attaching bolts to 15-17 ft. lbs.
d. Torque rear suspension control arm attaching bolt to 60-86 ft. lbs.
