Wiper Motor: Service and Repair
EXC. STA. WAG. LIFTGATE WIPER MOTOR
1.
On 1983-88 Cougar and Thunderbird models, operate wipers and turn ignition key off when blades are straight up on the windshield.
2.
On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
On 1982 Cougar XR-7 and Thunderbird, and 1983-86 LTD and Marquis models, remove righthand wiper and blade assembly. On Fairmont,
Granada, Zephyr, 1982-88 Cougar and 1983-88 Thunderbird models, remove both wiper arm and blade assemblies.
4.
On all models, remove cowl grille or trash screen attaching screws, then remove cowl grille or trash screen.
5.
Remove clip, then disconnect linkage drive arm from motor crankpin.
6.
Disconnect wire connector from wiper motor, then remove wiper motor attaching bolts and lift motor from cowl opening.
STA. WAG. LIFTGATE WIPER MOTOR
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove wiper arm and blade assembly.
3.
Remove pivot shaft attaching nut and spacers.
4.
On 1982-85 models, remove liftgate inner trim panel.
5.
On all models, remove license plate housing attaching screws, then disconnect lamp electrical connector and remove housing.
6.
Disconnect wiper motor wire connector.
7.
Remove linkage arm lock clip, then pry off arm and remove linkage.
8.
Remove wiper motor and bracket attaching bolts, then remove motor and bracket.
