This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include a procedure to install a water deflection shield.
ISSUE:
Water may collect in the bottom of the engine air inlet elbow on some vehicles This may be due to the engine air inlet tube drain hole being blocked by
debris or the water drain dump valve in the bottom of the air inlet elbow being unable to drain the collected water quickly enough. This condition may
lead to water contamination of the air filter and/or the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and can cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate
with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0172 and P0175, and/or result in a driveability concern.
ACTION:
Install a small plastic shield to the grille opening reinforcement to force water run-off forward. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for
installation details.
