Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to Service and Repair / Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure. See: Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release/Service
and Repair
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
4. Remove the vacuum line from the pressure regulator.
5. Remove two retaining screws from the regulator housing and discard.
6. Remove the pressure regulator assembly, gasket, and O-ring. Discard gasket and O-ring.
7. Clean gasket sealing surfaces. If scraping is necessary, be careful not to damage fuel pressure regulator or fuel supply line gasket.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: DO NOT use silicone grease. It will clog the injectors.
1. Lubricate a new fuel pressure regulator O-ring with clean engine oil.
2. Verify the gasket sealing surfaces are clean.
3. Install the new gasket and O-ring on the regulator.
4. Using new screws, install the pressure regulator on the fuel rail assembly. Tighten the retaining screws to 3.0-4.5 Nm (27.0-40.0 in lb).
5. Install the vacuum line to the regulator.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Install air cleaner outlet tube.
8. Turn the ignition switch ON/OFF several times to pressurize the fuel system. Check for fuel leaks.
