Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor signal provides the base timing and rpm information to the Ignition Control Module (ICM). Base timing is
set at 10° and is not adjustable.
OPERATION
When the trigger wheel rotates, the magnetic field (reluctance) of the sensor will change in relationship to the teeth of the data wheel. This change
with the magnetic field is called the CKP signal.
CONSTRUCTION
The CKP sensor is a variable reluctance sensor triggered by a 36 minus 1-tooth trigger wheel configuration.
