Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair
Arming and Disarming
DISARMING
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the positive cable. Allow at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
2. Remove two bolt and washer assemblies retaining driver's air bag assembly to steering wheel.
3. Disconnect driver's air bag connector, then remove the air bag from steering wheel.
WARNING: To prevent injury by accidental deployment, place module on a bench with trim cover facing upward.
4. Connect Rotunda Airbag Simulator 105-00010, or equivalent, to vehicle air bag wiring harness at top steering column.
5. Remove passenger's air bag module as follows:
a. Using a small screwdriver, detach dampening rod from righthand side of glove compartment.
b. Pull lefthand side of glove compartment inward and allow glove compartment to drop downward.
c. Remove air duct attaching screws, then the air duct.
d. Remove two vertically positioned bolts from each side of air bag module.
e. Remove two remaining air bag module attaching bolts.
f.
Push air bag module outward from instrument panel.
CAUTION: Do not handle air bag module by deployment doors.
g. Disconnect electrical connector, then remove air bag module.
WARNING: To prevent injury by accidental deployment, place module on a bench with trim cover facing upward.
6. Connect a second simulator 105-0010, or equivalent, to vehicle air bag wiring harness in place of air bag module.
7. Connect battery positive cable, then the ground cable.
ARMING
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the positive cable. Allow at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
2. Disconnect air bag simulator, then connect driver's air bag connector to air bag module.
3. Position driver's air bag module to steering wheel, then install attaching bolts and washers.
4. Disconnect passenger's air bag simulator, then connect electrical connector to passenger's air bag module.
5. Install passenger's air bag module. Connect the battery positive cable, then ground cable.
6. Place ignition switch in RUN position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately six seconds,
then turn OFF.
