Thunderbird V8-302 5.0L HO (1992)
Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove oil dipstick.
2.
Disconnect air filter cover retaining clips to allow free movement when engine is raised.
3.
Remove two bolts retaining radiator shroud to radiator and pull shroud loose from lower retaining clips.
4.
Install engine support fixture tool No. D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
5.
Raise and support vehicle, then drain engine oil and remove oil filter.
6.
Remove engine mount through bolts, then loosen transmission mount nut to allow mount to move when engine is raised.
7.
Partially lower vehicle, then raise engine approximately two inches, using support fixture tool.
8.
Raise engine and remove power steering cooler line retaining clips. Remove bolt securing transmission lines to engine block.
9.
Disconnect electrical connector from low oil level sensor located in oil pan, if equipped.
10.
Remove oil pan retaining bolts, then remove steering shaft pinch bolt and separate steering shaft from power steering rack assembly.
11.
Position two jack stands below engine support subframe. Remove lower strut-to-control arm bolts and nuts.
12.
While supporting engine support subframe on jack stands, remove six rearward bolts on subframe. Loosen two forward bolts on subframe.
13.
Lower subframe and remove oil pump/pick-up tube assembly and place it in oil pan.
14.
Remove oil pan.
15.
Reverse procedure to install.
