Seat Belt Warning Timer: Description and Operation
SAFETY BELT WARNING CHIME CIRCUITRY
When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position, power is supplied to the warning chime module. The thermal timer supplies power
to one side of the warning indicator (from four to eight seconds) through the passive restraint module. Power is also supplied to one side of the
warning indicator when either of the passive belt reel switches is open (shoulder belt disconnected), or whenever either shoulder belt transport is not
properly located at the B-pillar after the lap belt warning indication period is over. The opposite side of the lamp goes directly to ground. All modes of
operation use a constant (non-flashing) signal for the indicator.
SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR
If driver's lap belt is not fastened when the ignition key is turned to ON, the safety belt warning chime will sound for approximately six seconds and
the safety belt warning indicator lamp in instrument cluster will illuminate steadily for approximately 60 seconds as a reminder to fasten the lap belt. If
the lap belt is fastened while this indicator lamp is illuminated, the indicator lamp will be extinguished immediately (provided no automatic shoulder
belt warning conditions are present).
NOTE: During an automatic shoulder belt warning condition (automatic shoulder belt not connected to its buckle or a shoulder belt stalled before
reaching B-pillar locked position), the safety belt indicator lamp in instrument cluster will remain lit continuously.
With ignition key turned to ON position and one or both front seat shoulder belts are not latched in the emergency release buckles, the safety belt
warning indicator lamp will come on immediately and stay lit until both shoulder belts are latched in their buckles. If the front seat shoulder belts are
still not latched in the emergency release buckles when the shoulder belt buckle reaches the B-pillar locked position, the warning chime will sound for
approximately six seconds.
If the indicator lamp and warning chime stay on with both front seat shoulder belts latched in the emergency release buckles, the shoulder belt may not
have reached the B-pillar locked position.
