Seat Latch: Service and Repair

NOTE:  If the front seat back latch assembly does not pass the following procedure, the entire front seat back latch assembly must be replaced. Service
of the front seat back latch components is not acceptable and should not be attempted.

1. Remove seat.
2. With seat and track assembly removed from vehicle and positioned on a flat surface, grasp only the seat cushion, and slowly tilt the seat assembly

forward enough to cause the seat back to tilt forward by gravity.

3. The front seat back latch should engage at this point (11 degrees from original position), restricting the seat back from tilting to its full forward

position.

4. If front seat back latch does not operate, replace front seat back latch assembly.

REMOVAL 

1. Remove seat and track assembly.
2. Remove front seat back latch handle knob and bezel and discard.
3. Disengage front seat cushion cover as required to gain access to front front seat back latch-to-front seat cushion frame and spring retaining bolts.

Remove bolts.

4. Disengage front seat back cover as required to gain access to bolts retaining front seat back latch assembly to front seat back frame. Remove bolts.

INSTALLATION 

1. Position front seat back latch assembly to front seat back frame.
2. Install front seat back cover.
3. Attach front seat back latch to front seat cushion frame and spring with front seat back latch-to-seat cushion frame and spring assembly bolts.

Tighten bolts to 44-60 Nm (33-44 lb-ft).

4. Install front seat cushion side shield.
5. Install new front seat back latch handle knob and bezel.
6. Check front seat back latch for proper operation before installing in vehicle.
7. Install seat and track assembly in vehicle.
8. Check front seat track, front seat back latch and safety belts for proper operation.
