Thunderbird V8-4.6L VIN W (1997)
INSTALLATION
1. Apply Silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound to inside of rear disc brake caliper locating pin boots and to rear disc brake caliper
locating pins.
2. Position rear disc brake caliper locating pin and boots in rear disc support bracket.
3. Position rear disc brake caliper assembly on rear disc support bracket. Make sure rear brake shoes and linings are installed correctly.
4. Install new rear brake pin retainers. Tighten to 31-35 Nm (23-25 ft. lbs.).
5. Attach cable end to parking brake lever. Install cable retaining clip on rear disc brake caliper assembly.
6. Using new washers, connect rear wheel brake hose to rear disc brake caliper. Tighten retaining bolt to 40-55 Nm (30-40 ft. lbs.).
7. Bleed serviced caliper.
8. Fill brake master cylinder with specified brake fluid to between MAX line and 4 mm (0.16 inch) below MAX line on reservoir. Use High
Performance DOT-3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid.
CAUTION: Failure to tighten lug nuts in a star pattern may result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness,
shudder and vibration.
9. Install wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft.lbs) using Accutorq Lug Nut Socket or equivalent on a 1/2
inch air impact wrench, or use a torque wrench.
10. Lower vehicle and retest brake system.
Support Bracket
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. If service to rear disc brake caliper assembly is not necessary, do not disconnect wheel brake hose from disc brake caliper.
4. Remove both brake pin retainers.
CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not allow disc brake caliper to hang by brake hose. Hang caliper from an S-hook or mechanics wire.
5. Remove disc brake caliper from disc brake rotor.
6. Remove inner and outer brake shoe and lining from disc support bracket
7. Remove the upper and lower disc support bracket retaining bolts. Remove support bracket.
8. Installation is in the reverse order of removal noting the following:

Install the disc brake caliper/rear disc support bracket assembly to the wheel knuckle. Install new bolts and tighten to 98-132 Nm (73-97 ft.
lbs.).
