12-014Caliper Piston Expander

CAUTION:

Care must be taken to avoid spilling brake fluid onto painted surfaces. If spillage occurs it must be washed off immediately with cold water.

1. Disconnect the battery earth lead.

2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Fit bleed tubes to both the front caliper bleed nipples.
4. Place the ends of the bleed tubes in suitable containers and unscrew the bleed nipples.

NOTE:

Ensure the filler cap does not become contaminated.

5. Remove the brake fluid reservoir filler cap.
6. Purge the front circuits.
• Depress the pedal fully, pumping brake fluid into the jar, and allow the pedal to quickly return to the `rest' position.
• Pause briefly to allow full recuperation of the master cylinder.
• Continue pumping until all the fluid is purged and air is pumping into the container.

7. Hinge the caliper piston housing upwards.
1. Remove the plastic cap.
2. Remove the caliper slider pin bolt.
3. Hinge the caliper assembly upwards.

8. Fully retract the pistons.
9. Pump the brake pedal until only air is being pumped out.
10. Tighten the bleed nipple.

11. Refit the caliper assembly.
1. Hinge the caliper assembly downwards.
2. Refit the caliper slider pin bolt.
3. Refit the plastic cap.
12. Repeat operations 7 to 11 for the remaining opposite caliper piston assembly.
13. Bleed the braking system as described in Operation No. 12 141 0.
